The Sharp Dresser
A smart and snappy cocktail.
By Erin Henderson
I’m always on the lookout for new cocktails that are sophisticated, interesting and delicious.
An increasingly difficult task once the cool weather hits.
What is it about fall and winter (especially as we near the holidays) that inspires drink recipes overwrought with creamy sweetness? Sure, I’m game to throw back a Baileys on ice every now and again, but I don’t want a continual sugar drip straight through the cocktail straw.
When I heard The Sharp Dresser on The Dish podcast, I thought I’d give it a try. And how happy am I that I did? It’s spicy and tart and just sweet enough to offer a balance, The Smart Dresser has become my smart cocktail for fall.
The Sharp Dresser
The Dish podcast is based in the UK and uses millilitres for measurements. In Canada, we have a jumble of measurements where we sometimes use imperial (feet, pounds, and sometimes inches) and sometimes metric (kilometers, litres, Celsius and sometimes centimeters.)
For this recipe I’m using ounces, which seems to be what we mostly use for drink recipes in this country. Usually.
Makes: 1 drink
Bartender level: easy
Ingredients:
- Juice of ½ a lime
- ¾ oz orange flavoured liqueur, such as Cointreau
- 1 oz Vermouth de Torino, such as Cocchi
- Lime twist for garnish, optional.
How to Make It:
- Fill a cocktail coup with ice and set aside to chill while you make the drink.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add all the ingredients.
- Shake well until very cold, a good 20 seconds.
- Throw out the ice from the coup and stain the drink into the chilled and empty glass.
- Serve with a lime twist.
